Money ‘Scopes by Darla Downing

Aries
Payback is sweet, especially when it comes all at once. Yes, beautiful ram, karma comes full circle this month, with you getting the respect and appreciation you deserve. Expect others to pay back loans they owe you on December 1st and 2nd. By your peers clearing their debt, you will be stress free, and able to buy the best gifts for your flock. A work project ends on the 22nd, which will spin you into seasonal happiness, as you can take time off for the holidays. Mars connects with your Sun on December 31st, giving you the motivation to seek more fame and wealth in 2019. That’s right, Aries, you kick off the New Year with a bang, taking no prisoners to achieve your goals. Just be sure to take the last week of December off from work, so you can move into the New Year with determination and gusto.
Taurus
December 7th pushes your credit cards to the max, as your holiday spending habits this year are at a high. However, don’t fret, money from a past investment is coming your way on the 15th. The Full Moon on the 22nd allows you to rethink your work plan for 2019, even forcing you to take much needed time off to spend with your family. New Years Eve may cause you to be reflective in the upcoming year, as you try to find your niche in the world amongst all the other Bulls.
Gemini
You’ve worked super hard all year to achieve your professional goals. However, December asks you if the sacrifices you made in 2018 were worth the professional acclaim you are experiencing now. The New Moon on December 7th and Mercury’s forward movement on the 6th, give you a chance to rethink your career path. The 15th heightens your confusion, while the Winter Solstice on December 21st and the Full Moon December 22nd end an existing partnership at work.
Cancer
The New Moon on the 7th allows you to reconnect with colleagues, as you all have fun rocking around the Christmas tree at your office holiday bash. The Full Moon on the 22nd puts the focus on you, as you are the Crab of the hour at work, which will give you the drive to get your hustle on in the New Year, as action planet Mars moves into your professional sphere on December 31st, giving you the chance to up your game at work in 2019.
Leo
December isn’t a particularly bad month for you, sweet lion. However, it does lead you down several confusing paths, which may force you to abruptly walk away from  creative projects. The New Moon on the 7th brings a lucrative venture your way. Beware, this project is not what it seems. Being paid on time will result from the partnership, adding frustrations down the road. The 12th heightens your hesitations about the project, forcing you to choose another venture to dedicate your time to. Listen to your intuition, if it doesn’t feel like the right fit—let the gig go. There will be more opportunities for you down the road which will be a better fit.
Virgo
Business may have been slow this past month, forcing you to assert your thrifty nature, in order to save some cash. With your planetary ruler, Mercury, turning direct from its endless retrograde journey, on the 6th, you can expect a momentary reprieve around work and money. The 15th brings old clients back for good, as Uranus (who is moving backwards through its retrograde motion) and Neptune bring unexpected success your way, lasting into the New Year.
Libra
Finally, after months of financial ups and down, December brings an end to the financial roller coaster. The 1st and 2nd bring a boost to your bank account, as others are noticing your hard work. The Winter Solstice, occurring December 21st, brings new work your way—however, not without frustrations during the Full Moon on the 22nd. Use the end of December to balance out your priorities and not overwork yourself, as it may cause frustrations around the holidays.
Scorpio
It’s been a wild ride for you fall, as work and money have been inconsistent. 2018 surely had its windfalls and highs. The end of 2018 brings success your way. With Mercury, who is moonwalking back onto your Sun on December 1st, and Venus aligning with your Sun on December 2nd, you have the chance to have a financial reboot. The New Moon, which occurs December 7th, falls in the financial sector of your chart, giving you a whole new attitude toward your finances, followed by Mercury hitting your money spot, adding bang to your wallet on the 12th.
Sagittarius
Your financial lull may offset your holiday shopping, however, not your spirit. No one brings more pizzazz and energy to the party than you, Sag! This season, don’t let your Scroogey attitude affect your fun! The New Moon on the 7th allows you to be the most exciting version of yourself, as you bring holiday cheer to office events. Don’t stress about your bonus, you will be pleased with the bump in your paycheck on the 21st.
Capricorn
You’ve been a busy bee all year, lovely sea-goat! However, December forces you to realign yourself, focusing more on centering your energies. Your professional life has consumed much energy and time, forcing you to make some cutbacks on December 7th. However, all the business cards and contacts you’ve acquired during holiday parties on the 1st and 7th will lead to a promising new position in the New Year, as others are focusing  their energy on acquiring your skill set.
Aquarius
Your networking skills are on point this month, Aquarius! As we enter December, you start off the month receiving overdo praise on the professional front, leading to a substantial holiday bonus 7th. Be aware, your colleagues may feel a ping of jealousy, as your score office praise and fancy presents during your office holiday party.
Pisces
The New Moon occurring December 7th kicks up your determination for success at work. However, with Mars and Neptune aligning with your Sun, you may second guess your goals, due to deep seeded paranoias. Don’t let fear hold you back. Stepping into your new role at work with ease will boost up your finances on the 16th, allowing you to end the year with more money on the 31st.

Theme for this Full Moon = PUMPED.

This Full Moon is 11 degrees Virgo, which amplifies it’s energy with the use of a power number. We’re feeling a lot of energetic shifts, especially if you consider where Virgo lies on your astrological birth chart.

So, coming into this Full Moon I had just arrived back from vacation on a Red Eye. And even though I still work on vacation, or I schedule posts/ emails so I have some free time, I always come back feeling like I haven’t done enough. I get this sinking feeling that taking time for myself has been a detriment and I have ruined everything I built by going away for a few days. I freak out and my anxiety bubbles up and then…

Shame.

Guilt. Nervousness. All recipes for self sabotage. And why? Because I took a break to see my family?? No no, now it’s time to rewrite the narrative.

If you have been following my blog from the beginning, you know that personal development is 24/7 work. And running a business effectively is contingent on your own self care. Nothing you grow will flower from dead soil. So since I have been cataloging my journey, even I have down periods where I don’t follow my own WitchyWisdoms.

But I have noticed incredible progress. What used to be down periods of weeks, or even months, my down period this time was 12 hours. That’s it. 12 hours of lying in bed, binge watching Netflix (because every human deserves to be human) and then I woke up, meditated, and got back on the damn horse.

And guess what? Nothing in the world changed! All of that anxiety was self inflicted, and even though it could have been avoided, I’m grateful that it only lasted half a day. Progress is progress, and even baby steps move you forward.

And compared to a few years ago, these baby steps got me out the house and down the street!

I feel a lot of the Devil coming in to running my own business. It’s a lot of obsession over doing things all the time, right away. So to curtail that, I have set up a set schedule within my morning routine. Since my phone is my primary tool for work, I don’t use it at least one hour before bed and one hour after I wake up. I have two complete hours for me. Because guess what? Those clients can wait. I need to be fully me to serve, so in the end, they’ll thank me for waiting.

It was also very important to me to stick to a routine while I was away. Sometimes I have a tendency to have too much fun, or sleep to late, or eat the wrong foods just “because I’m on vacation.” But waking up with my morning ritual helps to set a pace of mindfulness throughout the day so I don’t go off the rails. If you throw everything to the wind because you have an excuse, you’re setting yourself up for disaster.

The last time I went away to California, it took be a couple weeks to bounce back. But today, I’m feeling ripe and ready for action. Yesterday was fabulous, today was fabulous, and tomorrow will be fabulous as well. And I can attribute that to this Full Moon in Virgo, which lights up my 12th house, and has to do with closure and spirituality. Gone are the days of endless self sabotage with a spiral and a freak out. I have honored my healing, I know what it takes, and I stay on top of it.

Tonight will be WitchTastic with a Full Moon bath, manifestation spells, and a lot of healing love from Mother Spirit.

Stay on top of yourself, keep yourself accountable, and stay witchy ( *)

Super Blue Blood Moon Reflections

Screen Shot 2018-01-31 at 4.49.50 PM

Hello my gorgeous blogging community, how I’ve missed thee!!

I have had so many things pop up since the last full moon, and I’m so grateful to be able to write and share with you all again.

As many of you know, I have switched gears on my blog to writing only during/ after a full moon, so that I can keep my writing feeling inspired, rather than like a chore. My two day a week endeavor was starting to feel mundane, so I cut it down significantly.

But here’s what: we have a lot to discuss!!

I want to talk about a big topic this month, with many nuances beneath it. Let’s discuss ENERGY!

Since our last full moon, I’ve been making major energetic shifts within my business and personal life. I’ve been focusing on dating more, drinking less, expanding my business opportunities, and narrowing my focus to only entrepreneurs. WOWEE!

But let’s get to the nitty gritty of what all of this means:

I have decided to put myself FIRST.

2018 has been full of lessons already, but the key point is that I started with the intention of creating more space for my Craft and my mental well being, so that I could fully prosper as a powerful witch and help others do so in the process. And that is how every goal should start: with intention.

Now, my clients know this very well, but what comes next is the scary part.

Destruction.

A lot of negative habits had to be destroyed in the process, and I feel like many of them have come to a close with this Full Moon.

The theme of this Full Moon is a tying of loose ends. The feelings that were stirred up since the August 2017 solar eclipse have come to a sort of resolution, and for me that meant minor self sabotage in both my business and personal affairs. And while they exist on a much smaller scale than a few years ago, we can always stand to improve, right?

First off, I have erected FIRM boundaries in my business. For too long I have been lax with clients, and even potential clients, for fear of losing them, but it took a real kick in the pants to practice what I preach and set rules for how I run my biz. I applied how I use boundaries in my day to day relationships and put them to use at WW, and the results I have seen are AMAZING. I wrote out a Mission Statement and Business Commandments and keep them in my planner so they are at the forefront of my mind.

Second, I have been working hard on cutting down on drinking. I have always been a social butterfly, and going out and enjoying a drink has been a regular part of my life. But I’m finding that, more than it being enjoyable, it has become a chore and a form of self sabotage, and while it doesn’t look like what it used to, Shawn 2.0 just isn’t here for it. It’s going to be a journey, but my intention is behind mindfulness 100% in 2018.

I always find that being honest in your journey and focusing on what really needs healing is the only way to get lasting results. Cutting corners and racing to the finish line is never going to make you feel fulfilled at the end of the day. So I hope my transparency doesn’t scare you, but rather inspires you to be honest with what you TRULY need to work on. Cuz honey, there’s always something.

So since I’ve been traveling through my destruction stages (The Tower and The Devil have been Tarot stalking me) I have kept my sights on the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve already seen fantastic bouts of abundance as I work honestly through my “up-leveling” and can’t wait to see what’s in store the next go-around! I have manifested a speaking opportunity on a Summit of over 1500 women, a feature in a print magazine, new sponsors for my podcast, AND MORE. These mindset shifts are so important, and it takes guidance to stay on top of them.

So I invite you dear, to ask yourself, what needs to be destroyed today? What are you unavailable for? How can you become a better you?

Remember that transformation is a necessary part of life, and to stay witchy ( *)

ThursdayThinks: Style Your Mind

IMG_4640Cara Alwill Leyba, who was a guest recently on my podcast, has a brand centered around the concept “Style Your Mind.” With a book and a podcast under this name, it got me thinking exactly what styling MY mind means to me.

So, on Monday we spoke about rerouting yourself to positivity over negativity, and I think that can be done with your own style/ identity. Which brings me to this weeks exercise, on creating a stylishly YOU avatar as a reference.

My style changes all the time, because I am constantly evolving. Sometimes I want to dress like Mama Ru in day drag and take selfies in bathroom mirrors. And sometimes I want to wear long flowing black dresses and sing Stevie Nicks under naked trees. But what stays the same for the longest is who I really want to show up as at my core.

So for this weeks exercise, I want you to create an avatar of exactly what YOUR style is and how to honor that with your  mindset.

What do I mean by this?

Let’s start superficially. What does your ideal you look like? What does she wear? Is her hair pulled back taut and strong, or free flowing and long? What is her first impression?

Next, what does your ideal you sound like? Does she have a strong voice? Does she ask questions? Does she sit back and observe? What is her presence??

Next, what does she do? Does she have a kick ass career? Is she an artist? Is she both? Does she play in the park? Does she drink daytime champagne? What is she all about?

And lastly, what is her thought process? Is she super ambitious? Or is she a self care queen? Is she in the middle? Does she honor all of her thoughts equally? Or does she have down days where she needs to recover? Does she speak 7 languages? Is she a taxidermy expert? What goes on in her brain??

When you do this exercise, you’re going to carve out someone to use as a benchmark that is uniquely your idol. There is no perfection. There is only perfectly YOU. And when you have a day where you feel lost, or when you feel out of control, you can say, “What would avatar Shawn do in this instance?”

Its a fun exercise, and you can even make a symbol for her and write her everywhere as a reminder. Get creative, dream big, and stay witchy ( *)

Balancing Your Shadow Self With Your Outward Self

FullSizeRender

Your true desires are often carried out by impulses, which don’t think of the big picture. Acting in this way lands you in hot water, and then scars you because you’re afraid to take another leap. So, what do we do to take careful steps around achieving what our shadow self wants the most for us? See the examples below on how to achieve balance.

Family

  • The desire: To have a path of clear communication and understanding in your family.
  • The impulse: To snap at a family member when you don’t think they understand you
  • Why that doesn’t work: Fighting a misunderstanding with a lack of compassion of your own is counter-productive.
  • The solution: When you’re sensing an escalation of sorts, try to understand from their side by asking questions. Approach the situation in a well rounded manner, and ask that they do the same for you. Set boundaries around what you will allow into your life, cut a conversation short if nothing is being achieved, then revisit later.

Work

  • The desire: To make more money, get a promotion, and flourish in your position.
  • The impulse: To take any and all extra work to prove that you can get it all done.
  • Why that doesn’t work: Overloading yourself will almost always mean that you are spreading yourself too thin. You work will not be as thorough as if you only took on what you could actually handle, and you run the risk of burning out.
  • The solution: Only accept what you can physically handle. Knowing your limits commands respect, and so does quality work.

Relationships

  • The desire: To have a happy and healthy relationship.
  • The impulse: To choose the first person who pays attention to you.
  • Why that doesn’t work: An ideal mate is not just anyone. You have to consult a careful observation before jumping into something serious.
  • The solution: Create a list of values your mate must have and do not make excuses. If loyalty is a value, don’t make excuses for him texting another girl, just because he’s also texting you. These values are non-negotiable. This approach takes time, and you deserve to be with someone who not only respects you, but is who you truly desire.

These examples are obviously not one-size-fits-all, but they are good jumping off points to consider when we act impulsively. It is hard to be patient, but that is essential for us to live our ideal life. Patience and discipline will lead to a high reward from the universe. Channel the desires of your shadow self in a healthy way, and stay witchy ( *)

WednesdayWisdoms: Dealing with a Dictator

office-space

Are you dealing with a high strung manager that won’t get off your back? Try these tips to keep yourself sane under all of the harsh treatment.

1. Remember that they are under A LOT of pressure.

Most likely, if your manager is coming down on you hard for something, it is because they are under direct order to do so. Their delivery might be harsh, because they aren’t too versed in how to communicate, but they are only doing their job. This understanding might help you to just let it go.

2. Breathe

It is really easy to fire back with a response, start to tear up, or shake with anger (whatever your chosen method is) when faced with someone who is a condescending prick. But if you remember to take three deep, long inhales before responding, and slightly meditate on, or at least remind yourself of, the first tip, the whole world starts to feel bigger than just that interaction.

3. Just say yes

This was a huge one for me to learn. I love to have a comeback and an answer, but in all honesty, you need to save yourself the exhaustion. Just agree with your boss. If it’s a deadline that you can’t possibly make because of all of your other work, then speak up in a polite manner, but if it’s anything trivial, just say yes. You don’t even have to do it (haha don’t tell them I told you that.) Sometimes, bosses just need to say something to remind themselves they are the boss. And if you just nod in agreement, they’ll walk away feeling great and you can go on doing your job as well as you always do.

4. Remember the BIG picture

Are you truly happy at this job, despite your boss? Do you like your coworkers, the work you produce, and your hours? Is the pay good? Is the commute worth it? Think of this tip like you think of finding an ideal mate. Tick off all of the must haves, the “great if it did” haves, and the “could do without”s. Is this job meeting your standards? Or are you convincing yourself that you’re happy because you don’t know anything else? Ask the big questions before continuing to put up with a sour asshole who’s bad at communication.

I hope these help you in your future work endeavors. Working for someone else is not easy, but neither is owning a business. Neither is sitting still forever. It all takes work. Just remember to ask yourself what will make you the most happy. Stay witchy ( *)

When the Oppressed Become the Oppressor

Brought to you by another RuPaul gem, this week is all about werk, werk, werk.

In some of his earlier podcast episodes, Ru talks about queens that get a slice of fame after chasing it for so long, and then start to emulate the monster celebrities that preceded them. They become hard to work with and act like damn DIVAS.

Does this sound familiar in any realm of your life? Because, for me, this sounds like what I’ve come to experience when working for other people. And, in all honesty, when I became the person to work for.

When people get promoted from within and have no real managerial experience, the jump is made naturally by mimicking the manager before them. This is the same as a parent/ child dynamic. It’s literally monkey see monkey do. So, if they were berated, mistreated, abused, and overworked, what do you think the natural managing style they will try to adopt is?

Now, unless you are more matured or have an innately high EI, this is the pattern you will follow. But on the flipside, that could hurt you, as it did for me when I became a manager.

Fighting so hard against what I had been exposed to didn’t leave me in a firm middle ground. Instead, it sent me over the line to pansy-ville where I would cater to everyones needs and pick up all of the slack. This was a dire case of people pleasing.

This left me with shoe prints on my back waiting for someone to throw me a bone and help me out. And it was also the precursor for the behavior that sent me down a road of codependence. I had no boundaries to speak of. I couldn’t protect myself from being taken advantage of, all while I thought I was doing the best thing for everyone (which is just impossible.)

Managing a business or department is hard work, but it doesn’t have to be a burden. As the reversed position of the Ten of Wands suggests, you don’t have to unnecessarily hold on to the attachment of dictatorship. There is a way to lead in a structured, yet respectful manner. And you may not learn that until the inevitable chaos of the Tower erupts and you are forced to change.

So, if you’re having trouble with your boss, and you like all of the other aspects about your job except for her or him, just remember that their behavior is a product of conditioning. If they are too hard on you, it’s most likely because they don’t have any other way to assert their dominance. Don’t take it too personally. And if you hate your job entirely, LEAVE. I know it’s a scary world out there, but it’s scarier to sit in a place of complacent misery for the rest of your life. I’ve known countless people to change full on careers between the ages of forty and sixty, so there are no excuses. Any age, any time, you can change your life to make you happier. Use awareness, get happy, and stay witchy ( *)
