Aries

With your ruling planet Mars moving into fellow fire sign Sagittarius on the 3rd of the month you’ll find that both your passion projects and the arguments you engage in will flow with wild creativity. Remember, fire can be either healing or destructive depending on the situation. The second eclipse of the season falls on the 10th with the Cancer Full Moon, and as with any lunar eclipse, this is going to be an active call to change. Something outside of your control, pertaining to your Cancer ruled house, will push you to behave in new ways. The infamous Saturn Pluto conjunction in Capricorn takes place on the 12th. This is a deep call towards inner transformation, one in which you will be required to act upon. It may not look like much on the outside, but it will feel like your mind and spirit are being tuned like a guitar. Mercury, the planet of communication and travel, moves into forward thinking Aquarius on the 16th. An opportunity to work with a new group of people will fall into your lap during this transit. The Aquarius New Moon is on the 24th and this will likely feel more like how New Years is supposed to feel, fresh and full of energy.  A new vision for 2020 is laid out before you; all you need to do is walk the path.

Taurus

Usually one to think before you act, Mars moving into Sagittarius on the 3rd of the month has you jumping to action more frequently, especially in regards to the matters of your Sagittarius ruled house. Use this energy to accomplish something big in Capricorn season. The Full Moon in Cancer on the 10th ends the current eclipse season. Something inside of you will shift, and an opportunity to release old grudges or pain is presented to you. Don’t resist it. Uranus stations direct on the 11th and this might feel jarring at first, especially after eclipse season, but in the days afterwards you’ll receive a download about a radical new way to call in more money to your life. Oh but the journey isn’t over because Saturn and Pluto meet up in the sky on the 12th! For Taurus’ this may feel like a rollercoaster, are you going up the hill or rapidly down?  Either way, you’re going somewhere. Venus moves into cosmic Pisces on the 13th and you may feel inclined to spend more during this transit, especially when it comes to food, booze, and crystals. The month ends with a New Moon in Aquarius on the 24th. This New Moon wants you to step outside of your comfort zone and act in the name of grand change.

Gemini

You’ll have to make a decision soon in regards to travel or education with Mars moving into your opposing sign on the 3rd. When in doubt, listen to you inner Sag and just do it! The 7th and 8th prove to be lucky days for you, so if you need some extra confidence to see something through, plan to execute on those days. Venus, the planet of beauty and money, moves into slippery Pisces on the 13th which is not the best omen for your wallet. Just be aware of the fact that you’re likely to share some wealth with people who won’t pay it back nor pay it forward during this transit. Mercury moves into Aquarius on the 16th, and during its time in the forward thinking air sign, your powers of observation will be on point! This is the time to learn from others, collaborate with people you admire, and build your brand’s community (if that’s applicable). The New Moon in Aquarius is on the 24th and since the moon is in an air sign you can expect things to move quickly. Don’t be afraid to say yes to something that scares you a little. Unless that thing is jumping off a bridge, then just say maybe.

Cancer

The second week of the month is going to be a doozy, but don’t let any astrologers (or would be astrologers) fool you; this is going to be exactly what you need to reorient and tune in to your higher self. Hello, manifestation! Hello, aligned business! Hello, prosperity! The Full Moon in Cancer, along with the lunar eclipse, is on the 10th. An emotional block you have in your life, work, or love is going to see a real world purge. This could be a breakup of sorts; a necessary one. The next day Uranus stations direct in Taurus, and you may not feel its energy at first, but over the next few months you’ll be restructuring yourself from the inside out. Then on the 12th will be the Saturn Pluto conjunction in your polar sign, Capricorn. A decision must be made today.  Hopefully the decision you made was financially sound, because with Venus moving into Pisces on the 13th we’re all likely to be spending more than we save. With the New Moon in Aquarius on the 24th you’ll be better able to handle problems and situations creatively. Call in creative solutions to the grander issues of your life, but first, what are the grander issues of your life?

Leo

Leos tend to be in positions of power. So, if you fall under that umbrella of existence, please be conscious of the fact that when Mars moves into Sagittarius on the 3rd you’re far more likely to get into a heated debate about politics, philosophy, or whatever Sagittarius rules over in your chart. Speak your truth but recognize that people are really listening. Eclipse season culminates with the Cancer Full Moon/ Lunar Eclipse on the 10th. An emotional outburst from you, or those around you, will lead you to an unexpectedly opportune place. Uranus stations direct in Taurus on the 11th and in the coming weeks or months you can expect to receive a jarring download about restructuring the path you have planned ahead of you. It may be jarring but that doesn’t mean it isn’t right. With Venus moving into Pisces on the 13th you’re more likely to overspend on spiritual help such as crystal jewelry or a charlatan palm reader. The Aquarius New Moon is on the 24th and this energy is good for calling things in that require an out of the box line of thinking. You may have to act quickly on an opportunity that day.

Virgo

From the 10th through the 13th we’ve got a lot of movement in the stars. As above, so below. It all starts with the Full Moon in Cancer and the Lunar Eclipse on the 10th. The energy is good for creating an opportunity for yourself; use personal stories and heartfelt words to manifest it. The next day, on the 11th, Uranus stations direct in Taurus and in the days afterwards you’ll find that the blockages in your determination will lift and your 5 year plan will be clearer than ever. On the 12th we have the wrongly feared Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn. For you this may feel like a gift, like things are finally falling into place- a nice, orderly, organized place. As Venus moves through Pisces, starting on the 13th, you will eventually have to put your foot down on a financial matter where you are being taken advantage of. Make the decision that’s in your best interest! The Aquarius New Moon is on the 24th and this will be a good time for you to release a fixed mindset by talking to someone, or multiple someones, who have a different world view than you.

Libra

Standing up for whom and what you believe in opens new door ways for you after Mars moves into Sagittarius on the 3rd. You’ll be pushed to deal with an issue at home or with your family on the 10th with the Lunar Eclipse on the Full Moon in Cancer. This issue requires you to pause and put yourself in the other person’s position in order to find a solution. On the 12th Saturn and Pluto will meet up in the sky ever so nicely. The impact of this will by strongly felt by you since they’re both in fellow cardinal sign Capricorn. Expect to get a sober look at your life and where it’s going; restructure anything that isn’t going to work for you in 2020. When Venus moves into Pisces the next day, your usually loose means of spending your money becomes all too apparent, but you’re likely to be too hard on yourself about it. Just learn your lesson and move on. The month ends with a New Moon in Aquarius. This is a beautiful opportunity to get a better understanding of your emotional nature. The blockages in your heart will momentarily be gone.

Scorpio

Eclipse season ends on the 10th with a Lunar Eclipse on the Cancer Full Moon. Take a sick day at work to deal with the deep emotions you will be met with on that day. Old childhood wounds are likely to rise to the surface and you need space to process them. On the next day, the 11th, Uranus stations direct. You probably won’t feel anything on the 11th aside from a strange longing, but in the days and weeks that follow you will have to make a decision regarding your boundaries with work. Make the choice that supports your higher self and greater health. On the 13th Venus moves into passionate Pisces and this is actually great news for you! People are looking to spend money and will therefore be naturally inclined to invest in you, your business, your life, etc. Mercury moves into Aquarius on the 16th which pushes you to be much more direct with your words. And then we have an Aquarius New Moon on the 24th to round out the month. This New Moon is a break from the heavier emotions you’ve waded through this month. From this more analytical place you’ll be able to call in a clear picture of the year ahead.

Sagittarius

You’re more brilliant, more engaging, more distracted, and more likely to get into a fight over politics or philosophy with Mars moving into your sign on the 3rd. Your optimistic and endlessly curious mind will shine throughout this transit, so be sure to write down all those ideas that pop into your head! The eclipse season ends on the 10th with a Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon in Cancer. You’ll soften under this moon, making it much easier to release any resentments from childhood or ancestral traumas. Believe me, you won’t need them going into 2020. As far as money goes, with Venus moving into Pisces on the 13th you can expect to gain money and spend it just as quickly. Money comes, money goes-that’s your homeostasis for the month ahead. Mercury moving into Aquarius on the 16th is lucky for you Sagittarius babes because it’s likely that an opportunity to write, speak, or share your niche knowledge with others will fall into your lap during this transit. Fire and air signs have a unique type of extra sensory perception which will be enhanced for you on the Aquarius New Moon on the 24th. Use this sensitive energy to get a glimpse into what the rest of your year entails.

Capricorn

This winter eclipse season culminates on the 10th with a lunar eclipse on the Cancer Full Moon! Someone is going to say or do something that triggers a deep emotional wound inside of you. You get to decide: lash out or open up about your fears and worries. Even the most open of Capricorns still has unexpressed layers of emotionality. You’ve been sitting with some new ideas for your career or business for a few months now, and with Uranus stationing direct in fellow earth sign Taurus on the 11th, everything is either going to fall into place in the first half of 2020 or fall apart. If it falls apart it just means that there was more work that needed to be done. On the 12th we have the dreaded Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, but really, this is nothing new to you. “Oh, this is a time of deep emotional restructuring? Sounds like a regular Tuesday.” What I’m saying is, you’ve got this. When Venus moves into Pisces on the 13th you’ll want to create a clear vision of how you plan to increase your income because, in slippery Pisces, money is likely to walk itself right out of your bank account. However, the 5 or so weeks Venus will be in Pisces is a great time for you to create opportunities for financial gain, you just have to put in the work.

Aquarius

Speak upon your knowledge as Mars beings its two month transit in Sagittarius on the 3rd. Don’t be surprised when an opportunity falls into your lap after standing up on a soapbox and telling it like it is. Your knowledge on astrology, politics, social issues, or climate change is needed. Your innate feminine energy will be running the show on the 10th with the Lunar Eclipse/ Full Moon in Cancer. Trust your inner voice and make a choice completely from intuition on that day. Uranus stations direct in Taurus on the 11th and you might not feel this energy instantly, but a series of events will pop up seemingly out of nowhere. These events will pertain to your Taurus-ruled house and will push you to create an unbreakable stability there. Mercury moves into Aquarius on the 16th which enhances your nerd brain. Write down all the brilliant flashes of ideas that pop into your head so that you can come back to them when you’re ready to act upon them. The Aquarius New Moon is on the 24th, so if there are any blank spots or question marks in your future sight ask your spirit guides, angels, or ancestors for a message tonight.

Pisces

Over the next two months, with Mars in Sagittarius starting on the 3rd of the month, an event of sorts will push you to share and express an idea that’s been stuck in your head for a while. This idea is more brilliant than you believe it to be, but people want more. A matter with your family or home life is going to culminate on the 10th with the Full Moon in Cancer and Lunar Eclipse. You have an opportunity to speak from the heart or say something you don’t actually mean. Remember that this eclipse season is a continuation of a long cycle, are you ready to break the cycle?  Venus moves into Pisces on the 13th which can be a less than affluent transit for many, but not for you! If you are an artist, creative, or work in a creative field, this is going to be a great time to create and make sales. Seriously, put your art out there, people want to give you their money right now! The Aquarius New Moon is on the 24th and this is a “make your own luck” kinda moon. Think about something you’d like to see happen in the near future, visualize every aspect of it, feel what it feels like for this to happen, and then watch as it unfolds shortly thereafter in your waking life.

Are you a novice tarot reader struggling to memorize or rote learn all the card meanings? Maybe you’ve been reading for a few years, but your conversations with the cards have gotten stale and  need to be revamped? Heck, maybe you’re a 200 year old witch who has every tarot deck in existence and can channel the Akashic Records, even you can find value in the tarot practice I’m going to explain!

As Dumbledore once said, “Ah music, a magic beyond all we do here!” Music is perhaps one of the oldest forms of magick. It can make us cry, laugh, dance, and even fall in love, but can it help us deepen our understanding of the tarot? Yes, of course!

Allow me to explain. One day I was walking to work, listening to my alternative music playlist, and the song Things I’ll Never Say by Avril Lavigne came on shuffle. Besides being instantly taken back to the year 2002 as an angsty middle schooler with a tattoo chocker on, I couldn’t help but feel like the song reminded me of something else. I opened up a note on my phone and wrote, “Things I’ll Never Say-reversed 2 of Cups.”

Lo and behold, I had just created my new favorite past time! I started with just the Cups suit but quickly felt inspired to do so with each of the 78 cards in the deck. I mean, what song really tells the story of the Ace of Pentacles better than Marry the Night by Lady Gaga? And what better way to spend my morning walk to work every day than listening to music while deepening my understanding of the tarot?

I was elated to find that this practice allowed me to grow and build on my knowledge of each of the cards, something I am always striving to do. And that’s what is so beautiful about the tarot, they aren’t rigid archetypes, but instead are more like fluid, living stories. When we expand and seek new ways to speak with the cards we grow as readers and story tellers.

Here are some ways you can incorporate this practice into your life:

  1. Daily Draw

If a daily draw is already in your practice, great! If not, let this be a sign to start doing so. Now put on your favorite playlist and press shuffle. Listen to each song closely seeing if you can find similar themes to the ones in the card you pulled this morning. Once you’ve found the perfect song, you’ll know! It’ll be your jam for the day. Write it down in your grimoire or book of shadows, if that is in your practice. It’s totally fine if your grimoire is a note in your phone and not a notebook made from the skin of demons, it’s 2018 Witches!

  1. The Organizer

If you’re like me you love lists (shoutout to my fellow Earth signs). First pick a suit, then make a new note in your phone, or jot one down by hand if that feels right, listing ace through 10. Spend as long as you need, a week or more, listening to your music trying to piece together which songs work best for each card. Do all the suits, then the court cards, ending with the Major Arcana. Note any trends like “Cups are all Oldies” or “All the Knights are punk rockers,” and see what new insights these trends can give you about the cards.

  1. Backwards

This is a fun way for a more advanced reader to play this musical game. Make a playlist with 78(ish) of the songs near and dear to your heart, songs that you understand more than yourself, songs that have lived in your soul for years. Then, as you listen to this awesome playlist, start to imagine that the songs are about the cards. You’ll find that, as you assign a card to each of the songs, new ideas will sprout and give birth to new insights that you can use in your readings.

At the end of the day, all of this should be fun! So whether you’re looking for a more exciting way to learn the card meanings, or if you just love tarot and music, I hope you all enjoy this little exercise.

Happy reading and happy story telling!
