April Money ‘Scopes by Jasmine Wolfe

Aries

That Aries New Moon on the 5th is your Divine call to action! This day is a harmonious day for you to start any new endeavor and since it’s in your natal sun sign you’ll be feeling super charged all day; do that bold thing you had been putting off. You’ll be feeling a natural call to tighten your finances around the 10th. Make a budget, check your account statements, it’s always a good idea to be mindful when it comes to wealth. On the 17th you’re usual direct way of speaking is enhanced, so if you have any important meetings or calls to make do so on or after the 17th when Mercury will be in Aries. The second of two Libra full moons will be on the 19th, this is your final call to release the things, thoughts, and people that do not add harmony to your life. Reevaluate the people you partner with. At the end of the month one voice in your head will be telling you to buy a big ticket item. Another voice will be telling you to use your money responsibly. Try to hear both voices out.

Taurus

That gym membership you’ve been thinking about getting is looking real nice around the New Moon on the 5th but by the 10th you may be regretting the purchase. If you’re worried about money look at your bank statement. Are you eating out too much? If you can’t put it on the company card then you should probably scale back and save some money. Mercury will be in Aries from the 17th until May, your opinions hit more bluntly than usual for the latter half of the month and by the 19th you might be looking down the barrel of a break up. Maybe it’s the termination of a project you’ve been working on, or ending a business partnership, or maybe you will have to fire someone or end a relationship with a client. The Pluto and Saturn retrogrades at the end of the month, starting with Pluto on the 24th, will help you handle this situation with grace. Pluto will help you rebuild and Saturn gives a much needed reality check.

Gemini

Your already rampant mind is full of new ideas on the 5th. Remember, a million dollar idea is only worth it if you match your passion with the appropriate actions. That Jupiter retrograde on the 10th is going to hit you hard, either in a good or bad way. Something that isn’t working for you will be taken away from you during this transit, whether you wallow or pick yourself back up off the ground and keep going is up to you. Whatever Jupiter takes away is only happening to make room for something else. Your natural charm is upleveled after Mercury goes into Aries on the 17th. You’ve always known how to use your gift for gab to your advantage, if you need help just ask. Clean up your work space on the 19th, especially if you’re feeling stuck or bored with the work you do. That money you’ve been saving for a summer adventure? On the 20th you’ll want to start looking at booking the campsite or buying the 8 person floatie.

Cancer

There’s a real duality to the beginning of the month for you Crabs. On one hand, Spring time in full bloom (for those us us in the Northern Hemisphere) has you feeling some type of way, and yet as soon as you go outside you may be feeling like turning around and going right back in. Be gentle with your fluctuating needs. The 10th brings a loss, probably your keys or that $10 bill you had in your jacket pocket for weeks. An argument on the 17th will linger (as they usually do) up to the the 2nd Libra full moon on the 19th. This is a good time to let go of the hurt and allow yourself to actually forgive and forget this time. Once Taurus season hits the next day you’ll be feeling much more like yourself, maybe too much so. Be wary of any purchases you make on the 20th because you’ll probably want to return them. The Pluto and Saturn retrogrades at the end of the month are going to be a call to action for you Cancer. You’ll be like a hermit crab looking for a new, better home. Don’t forget that your first home is yourself.

Leo

That New Moon energy has you feeling like making new business cards and leaving them in every cool coffee shop around town. A natural leader and performer, you’ll do yourself well to make bold choices around the 5th. There’s room for everyone to shine in this world but nobody really shines brighter than a Leo, keep this in mind as Jupiter goes retrograde in the 10th. A new job, gig, opportunity, or client will back out or be taken out of your grasp but that’s ok, you didn’t need it! Trust me! Speak your truth on the 17, you’ll find that there was something you’ve been holding back and you simply can’t keep it close to your chest anymore. Let the Lion(ness) roar! Happy hour drinks or any other sort of social gathering close to the second Libra full moon on the 19th can bring you luck in business partnerships. Wanna collab with that dope witch you’ve been following on insta for a few months? Message them sometime between the 17th and the 20th for extra good luck. The end of the month may bring up some big questions but all in all it’s a very good time to be a Leo.

Virgo

You have a lot of restless energy at the start of the month. Some aspect of your job or work life is feeling way too confusing for you, it’s making your well ordered brain itch. Just allow this situation to be, if you try to fix it you’ll only make it worse, especially since things will com to a head on their own around the 10th. You’re great at saving, right? You may have a reason to dip into those savings at this time but, fear not, this is exactly why people save their money. Your communication style is going to hit someone in the wrong way around the 17th or at some point in the month thereafter. Be conscious of the fact that not everyone is down for constructive criticism… at least make sure you’re actually being constructive. There is a big release needed from you at the end of the month starting around the 19th and after a somewhat tumultuous fist few weeks you’re actually going to be so ready for the shifts and changes you’re being asked to make. If there’s one thing Virgo can do it is rebuild (and come back better than every baby).

Libra

The power has shifted for you on the 5th and you won’t be complaining at all, if more people lived life the way you do the world would be a more beautiful place. Use your magnanimous charm for good, the people are listening. There will be a loss at work or in your career around the 10th when Jupiter stations to go retrograde but this is going to be a loss that you’ve been secretly waiting for, or it’s a loss you won’t know that you needed until it’s gone, either way it won’t hurt. An inner boss bitch voice may come out a few times this month but it’s ok to be tough sometimes, your voice needs to be heard. That second Full Moon in your natal sun sign is going to give you a power surge, but it’s up to you how you’ll use the energy. Trust yourself. Think before you spend near the end of the month (and into May as well) or else you’ll wake up from a day dream and be surrounded by a myriad of pretty new things, which isn’t the worst way to to wake up from a dream, but it sure as hell isn’t a smart money move.

Scorpio

Your sense of self is going to come into question in the beginning of the month. Don’t act on this confusing energy, just let it sit. A loss around the 10th is going to hurt your bank account, so it’s time to get serious about your budget, organize your money habits. Relations at work are strained for you around the Full Moon on the 19th. You’ll find yourself saying things that you wish you’d kept close to your chest, simply because people are going to misconstrue what you’re trying to convey. You might want to work from home if you can to avoid making Susan in finance cry at her desk on accident. Things relax shortly after the Full Moon as the Sun enters your opposing sign Taurus. There’s a real “do what you need to do” vibe for you natal Scorpios at the end of the month. It’s not a “treat yo self” vibe, more like an adult version. Do the stuff that needs to be done, Scorpios are no stranger to this concept!

Sagittarius

Your heart is going to know exactly what it wants on the 5th, but it’s likely to change its mind by the time your ruling planet of Jupiter stations to go retrograde for a few months on the 10th. This is a big leveling up for you natal Sagittarians when it comes to how you make money, but leveling up requires reflection, intention, and action-in that order! With Mercury going into Aries on the 17th you’ll find that you’ll be able to articulate yourself with more grace than usual. This is a time for speaking from the heart. An effortless release happens around the 19th and it creates space for you to travel. Perhaps it’s the release of an obligation or a relationship that was holding you back from beginning a new adventure. Lots of good shifts are coming your way! Taurus season begins on the 10th, and it may be a time of year when you find yourself nervously shaking your leg, biting the backs of your pens, and tapping incessantly on the table, but you’re going to be invited to lead in a big way around that time. Be wary, sometimes getting what we want is actually a tough lesson in disguise.

Capricorn

There’s tension for you around the 5th, but then again, does Capricorn not thrive in tension? Use this energy to kick start you on to a new project, be it getting back into running/the gym, starting to write that book you’ve been planning relentlessly, or even cancelling your Netflix subscription so you can be more productive this spring. Mercury in Aries isn’t your favorite aspect to live through, but once again, you’re a tough a** goat! You might come off the wrong way at work and with friends but having others fear you isn’t always a bad thing is it? In fact, there is a relationship that may end this month. Remember, every person we have in our life is a relationship, so this isn’t necessarily romantic but it is a necessary release (even if it doesn’t feel so good). On the 20th the sun will enter your sibling sing of Taurus and this energy is calling for you to tighten your grip on your money. Some call it stingy but you know that nothing is guaranteed and money talks.

Aquarius

You’ll meet someone new at the beginning of the month. This person is going to inspire you with the way they live their life. Allow them to be the teacher for once. When Jupiter stations to go retrograde on the 10th you’ll find that the usual uncomfortable groans or avoided eye contact that strangers and friends alike give when you’re on your 3rd diatribe about the inequalities and injustices in our modern society suddenly have turned into an interested audience. People will be willing to listen to you because you speak from the heart. Sure, you’re smart as hell too, but you’ll need to keep checking back in with yourself starting on the 17th to make sure that the words you speak are your own; that’s what people want to hear. In fact, if being paid to publicly speak (or to write) is something you’ve been toying with, the stars are aligning this month to make it so. The world needs your voice, and boy do you have quite a few things you’ve been wanting to say.

Pisces

Sometimes taking a good hard look at ourselves is the scariest thing we can do, but the Universe is calling you to do so at the beginning of the month. What do you need specifically? What does success look like to you? What does freedom look like to you? How are you showing up for yourself and your dreams? A loss around the middle of the month is a necessary one. You’ll receive a message on the 10th about what this “loss” will be all about. You’ll feel the shift on the 17th when Mercury enters Aries, this might end the retrograde shadow but it won’t be a hallelujah sigh of relief for you, Pisces. You’ll be feeling the energy of everyone you encounter, so work from home if you can, spend time alone especially near water. Around the full moon on the 19th you’ll face a difficult conversation with a loved one, but fear not, difficult conversations can lead to stronger bonds shared if the language used is nonvoilent. You can both come out winners. Make sure your spendings are in line with your highest good at the end of the month.

January Money ‘Scopes

Aries
January serves as your professional wake up call, as the Sun and Saturn align in the career sector of your chart on January 2nd, implementing a new dream around work. Money matters seem to resolve smoothly on the 3rd and 4th, due to a Grand Water Trine between Venus, the North Node of Destiny, and the asteroid Chiron which will all serve to heal recent financial missteps. The solar eclipse January 5th aims to push your professional life in high gear, however, you may fall victim to personal setbacks, as Neptune is activating your innermost fears to hold you back from achieving your goals. Don’t let your insecurities get in the way of your success on January 8th. You’ve worked hard enough and deserve to prosper this month. January 20th brings inspiration and hope your way, through the support of your colleagues. Also, watch out for news regarding promotion or raise during the lunar eclipse occurring January 21st.

Taurus
With your planetary ruler, Venus, aspecting the house of debt in your chart on January 7th, you will have the next month to figure out your finances. Starting off the new year with a fresh perspective on money will allow your bank account to sore throughout 2019. The solar eclipse January 5th aims to teach you lessons around your spend fast tendencies, pushing you to be more thrifty than you care to be, luxurious Taurus. January 20th elevates your professional status, which leads you to rethink the direction of your career under the lunar eclipse January 21st. January 31st helps you use your connections to your advantage in strategizing your next professional steps—use your contacts wisely!

Gemini
January is a catalyst for you to rethink your financial investments, or, who you invest time in. You kick off 2019 feeling more confused than ever regarding the state of your career. The solar eclipse January 5th pushes you to ask for a raise at work, as you have been putting in massive amounts of overtime. However, you may not receive the payment you had wished for, causing you to second guess your career (especially when your planetary ruler, Mercury, enters the house of joint finances). With the Sun, Saturn, and Mercury lighting up your house of OPM (other peoples money), you feel stuck in more financial limbo during the solar eclipse as bills pile up and your raise is minimal. To further your frustrations, Jupiter and Neptune square off January 13th, which will impact your career, making you rethink your purpose on the 31st. Although circumstances may feel bleak this month, try to persevere through the storm, as February brings a lighter energy your way.

Cancer
A new business partnership is headed your way January 2nd, leading you into the solar eclipse January 5th feeling strong and perilous. The lunar eclipse January 21st brings a financial payback your way, allowing you to sit back and relax. However, the last days of January serve as your financial wake up call to start saving your pennies and stop spending frivolously. A get rich quick scheme or a financial idea from your new partner could leave you feeling like a crab in hot water on January 31st, if you don’t question the circumstances of the investment and do your due diligence in investigating the project.

Leo
The solar eclipse January 5th brings up issues and resentments you’ve had with colleagues. However, you have the opportunity to press the reset button and start anew under the solar eclipse, allowing you to make amends with your coworkers as you move into the new year. January 13th brings a creative opportunity your way. The project may not yield a high salary, but, will give you a chance to put your artistic juices to work. The flip side of this transit, is that you may be over indulging in post New Year’s celebrations, causing financial setbacks to occur, as your credit card is bogged down with frivolous charges. The lunar eclipse January 21st helps you get your head back in focus, as the Moon connects with your Sun, starting your monthly personal New Moon which will lead you into personal growth and professional development.

Virgo
January will make your head spin, Virgo! Especially around financial and professional matters. With your head recently lost in love, you have let your business go and you are now feeling the financial pinch of the matter. Uranus reawakens the house of debt in your chart, firing up your emotions as you see all the bills piling up and your bank account dwindling. Uranus has been moving backwards for the past five months, asking you to reassess your financials since August 7th. With its forward moment on the 6th, you will feel the sting of not planning your finances carefully, causing you to make hasty decisions mid month. January 13th will bring a professional opportunity your way, however, it may not align with your personal values, causing inner turmoil within you. Deciding whether or not to compromise your beliefs will be the focal point of the second half of the month until January 31st, when you decide to abandon the project to protect your ideals.

Libra
Work has been intense for you these past few months, causing your batteries to feel depleted and in need of a recharge. Venus, the North Node of Destiny, and the asteroid Chiron may bring personal and financial success on the 3rd and 4th. However, the solar eclipse on January 5th exhausts you, making you want to retreat from work momentarily. January 6th brings issues regarding work relationships, furthering professional boundaries that are pushed to the max January 8th. The lunar eclipse January 21st brings new career opportunities your way, as long as you have the energy to get out of the house in network. If not, use LinkedIn to your advantage and rub virtual elbows with those who can help advance your career.

Scorpio
2019 is a powerful year for you, Scorpio. You are finally getting the recognition you deserve, as well as the paycheck. The solar eclipse January 5th aims to cement your goals for the year, allowing you to start a whole new chapter in your professional career in publishing and spiritual pursuits. January 13th brings a unique project your way, which will definitely intrigue you. However, don’t sign off on the concept right away, as Neptune has some tricks up its sleeve, which may cause a financial windfall for you. Known to be a powerful financier, after all you are the sign of “sex, death, and taxes,” you may fall victim to a financial scheme on the 13th. Read the fine lines of the document and details of the project before committing, as you may find there are flaws, or, even deception in the contract. The lunar eclipse January 21st brings you a  new job title. Enjoy your newly professional status, after all, you’ve earned it!

Sagittarius
Your finances will be taken on a roller coaster throughout January. January 2nd brings a financial loss, due to restrictive Saturn limiting your cash flow. This is heightened during the solar eclipse January 5th when your wallet may feel emptier than ever. A friend may offer assistance during the eclipse. If you decide to take the loan, be clear with the details. Let your friend know how and when you can pay them back. If you are not clear, January 13th can cause more issues than expected around your relationships and money. The solar eclipse January 21st gives you the chance to rethink your finances, with help of an advisor. Take the advice they offer and stick to a budget—this will only serve to help improve your finances.

Capricorn
January is your month for success, dear sea-goat. With your solar return bringing you lessons from your yearly orbit around the Sun, plus Saturn and Mercury aligning with your Sun, you are unstoppable now. Committing to the next dream is essential January 2nd and the 4th. Venus is harmoniously aspecting the North Node of Destiny, who is galvanizing through your house of partnerships, and healing asteroid Chiron, allowing you to put your smooth talking skills to work and collaborate with others on the 3rd and the 4th of January. This empowering energy brings you into the eclipse January 5th feeling stronger than ever, giving you the motivation to transform your world on the 6th, as your old hopes and wishes are reignited by the fortuitous luminary. January 8th brings frustrations around the next big professional step, as you are too eager to rush through projects without understanding what they entail. A big paycheck comes your way on the 20th, bringing you into the lunar eclipse January 21st with gold filling your bank account and an advance payment on your dreams.

Aquarius
January 3rd and 4th bring hopeful news of an impending promotion your way. However, be prepared to fight with your colleagues over the position during the solar eclipse January 5th. January 13th is a powerful day for you, Aquarius. As Jupiter and Neptune square off, you may feel professionally and monetarily stunted, as your bank account will dwindle, causing you alarm. While your loving cup may feel tipped and empty during this time, you will be once again hopeful on the 20th, when you start your solar return. The light will once again shine on you, promising you a lucrative year ahead. The lunar eclipse on the 21st brings a professional partnership to light, making you rethink your commitments to joint ventures. Finally, January 31st makes you more lustful over money—be sure to make secure investments before you cartwheel through your bank account.

Pisces
January is a bit of a mixed energy. The solar eclipse January 5th align you with powerful colleagues, who will help advance your career. The caveat falls within you, dear sea dweller, as you are unsure if you are suited for this career path. You are having a professional existential crisis of sorts on January 13th, which will lead you to question your goals. You may feel as though you have worked so hard on your path and you have hit a brick wall, or, as though there is no advancement in your career. Regardless, you are now motivated to seek out new opportunities and professional directions, which will lead you down the path of success on the 31st.

Natalie is a Tarot reader, Medium, and a student of Astrology. She is a Priestess in several traditions of Witchcraft, and enjoys all variety of plant medicine, sigil magic, and ecstatic ritual. She spends her time traveling between the veils, studying the dark arts and crafts, and creating ritual goods and self care items for her online store Skeleton Key Shop. Her favorite moments are spent making magic with her coven Deam Lux and snuggling with her bunny familiars.

Santeria, also known as Lucumi or La Regla de Ocha is an initiatory religion with origins in West Africa, that was brought to Cuba, Brazil and other regions of the Caribbean during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. Centered around deities known as Orishas, that were often syncretized with Catholic Saints in order to preserve the practice in secret.

I am a Priestess of Yemaya in the Lucumi Tradition, more commonly known as a “Santera”. When you come into my home it looks mostly like everyone else’s. You won’t find huge altars full of statues and candles, or chicken feet hanging from the ceiling. In fact my home looks pretty ordinary besides my penchant for crystals, apothecary jars, and the spaces reserved for my Ancestors and other practices which are usually kept out of sight.

You wouldn’t know what I practice unless I specifically told you, or if you too were a practitioner and able to read the subtle signs. A certain charm on my necklace that is only prescribed during ordination as a priest or the bracelets I always wear that match with none of my outfits.  My close friends know that certain foods are taboo for me.  I also try to avoid getting wet in the rain – also a taboo for me.  Sounds strange, but becoming deathly ill twice after getting caught in the rain makes you realize that your Abuela is sometimes right!  My point is that the Lucumi religion is a highly personalized practice that is fitted to the individual. What is medicine for one person can be poison for another.

According to the lore of this practice, which is purely oral tradition, we are all born with our ORI.  In new age terms, this is our higher self. This higher self is connected to our life’s path and comes with an innate knowledge of certain things.  It has its own power, or ASHE. Although we have free will to make our way through life, it is our ORI that repeatedly nudges us in the direction of our best life, whether this is through people that we meet, or a seemingly random chain of events.  These moments and people change the entire course of our lives, as it did mine.

You wouldn’t know what I practice unless I specifically told you, or if you too were a practitioner and able to read the subtle signs.”

I was born into a family that suffers from Bipolar disorder, Depression, and Schizophrenia. Unfortunately, some of my family members committed suicide.  My mother attempted suicide when I was just two years old. She had gone off her medication during pregnancy in order to carry me at great risk to herself.  As we know, postpartum depression is very serious. It is even more so for people already living with mental illness. Miraculously, she survived what should have been a fatal injury.  Still, she was hospitalized with a fractured spine. For the next three years, she would relearn how to walk and perform basic motor functions. During this time, I was cared for by my grandmother.  Abuela was a priestess of Vodou, as practiced in the Dominican Republic. She was also a nurse at an elderly care facility. Every day, I would watch her pray, work, and help the streams of people that came for her assistance.  She would sit me at her altar – in this case and practice, there were many statues and candles – and taught me how to pray.  I prayed every night for my mother to come back to me as she was, although I was warned repeatedly that she may never walk again.  Against all odds and prognoses, she made a full recovery. Though I went back to my normal life, I never forgot my introduction to this world.  My innocent prayers were heard by these mysteries, as they were called.

screen-shot-2018-10-24-at-12-41-04-pm.png

Fast forward to my early 20’s.  After years of solitary practice, I found a pagan path where I was exploring traditional witchcraft and being offered initiation.  Coincidentally, I was presented with an opportunity to read tarot in a famous New York botanica (Nudge.) At this time, I had absolutely zero interest in the religions of my culture.  Yet, I was suddenly immersed head first into this world. Instead of crystals, pretty talismans, and perfume oils, I was surrounded by Catholic statues, camphor, cigars, Florida Water, and images of the Orisha.

A close friend and colleague had been seeing someone whom she called “Her Padrino.”  She was super secretive about her interactions with this person, which I found rather creepy. Sometimes, she would show up to work dressed completely in white and be eerily silent most of the day.  She was my polar opposite, as I was wearing all black and blasting My Chemical Romance each morning. I was the one that customers would gravitate to for hexing and separation work. Looking back, I realize that I was ANGRY with a lot of things in my life and that this was a perfect outlet at the time.  Though my tireless work was effective, my aura was dark.

A particularly cool shipment of statues came in one day, and my High Priestess presented me with an extravagant gift, a large statue of the Orisha Yemaya. She was a brown skinned, bare breasted mermaid with a pink tail, a jeweled crown on her head and holding a silver star in her hands (Nudge). This was odd as I was being trained in Initiatory Wicca, which has absolutely nothing to do with Orisha practice, or other African Diasporic religions. (This is the realm of usually ill-informed eclectic witches and a whole separate topic). She said simply, “You should have this. This is you.” I laughed, thanked her and accepted the gift, as alien as it was. Truthfully, this lovely statue stayed in her padded foam box for several years as I had no idea what to do with her.

Instead of crystals, pretty talismans, and perfume oils, I was surrounded by Catholic statues, camphor, cigars, Florida Water, and images of the Orisha. ”

Around the same time my colleague and fellow Bruja invited me to a drumming. An Orisha drumming is not anything like a pagan drum circle. It is normally reserved for initiates or for members of an Ile, a temple or house of Orisha. I don’t know how this even happened, but I went to the event.I could hear the drums before I even entered and they immediately gave me a faint queasy feeling, like butterflies in my chest. When we entered the large room, the air was surprisingly thick and humid. To the left was a huge altar called a Throne. It was adorned with fabric, fruits, sweets and other items gleaming in shades of gold and pink. Three drums were set up in the front of this room.  As the drums were played, my friend and I stayed plastered to the back wall hoping that no one would ask us who invited us, or why we were there, as the girl who had extended the invite in the first place was a no show.

Screen Shot 2018-10-24 at 12.41.25 PM

I watched the people dance, their methodical steps giving way to abandon and wild movements at times that frightened me. A woman danced alone in front of the drums, her clothes plastered with sweat and her face beet red. After a time she was ushered away, only to return with a glistening blue and silver shawl around her neck, her hair wrapped up in another lovely fabric, and several younger people escorting her where she wanted to go, as she seemed to move through the room like a butterfly, speaking to some and ignoring others. I could see the people present crying and I did not understand why.

I honestly felt a pang of panic at this time and I wanted to leave. When I told my friend this, she flatly said that it was too late to leave. Once an Orisha had joined the event, possessing an initiate, it would be considered extremely rude to walk out the door, and there was no way of doing it sneakily as they (the Orishas) were capable of seeing and hearing everything in the room at once, including our thoughts. Now I was truly shitting myself and broke out in a cold sweat, when this woman immediately made eye contact with me and walked straight in my direction. At first I returned her gaze, but the closer she drew, the more unsettling it became and I shifted my eyes down towards my feet.

She came right up to me and grabbed my chin upwards. At this moment I was being yelled at by my friend who was trying to show me how to properly greet The Orisha, but I was frozen to the spot and her grip on my face was not soft. As per the woman who appeared by her side to translate, this was the Orisha Yemaya who was speaking to me (Nudge).  She proceeded to speak about my mother’s accident (I had never shared this with anyone at that point in my life as I was too ashamed). She said that the spirits of my homeland had heard my prayers saving my mother and myself from living out that tragedy, but that I ultimately belonged to HER, and to all of them. I opened my mouth to ask how and my friend shook her head rapidly at me with bulging eyes. Instead I nodded and crossed my arms, bowing my head a little, as I had seen others do. She passed her beautiful embroidered cloth all over my body, and I felt the crackle of energy like electricity as all the hairs on my arms and head rose. Her last words to me were “Don’t worry, you will see.”  I did see.

Once an Orisha had joined the event, possessing an initiate, it would be considered extremely rude to walk out the door, and there was no way of doing it sneakily as they (the Orishas) were capable of seeing and hearing everything in the room at once, including our thoughts.”

The chain of events to follow were less like nudges and more like blows upside the head!  I chose to share this to show something that few share on Social Media. The magic of these Orisha goes way beyond spells and altars, and deep into ancestral healing and realignment with one’s destiny.  It’s an experiential religion that creates deep, personal growth and change for each person it touches. To those seeking the Orisha, I advise you to really SEEK them, so that you can have these life-changing and miraculous experiences for yourself.

I was recently moved to tears and brought to my knees in front of an Orisha, Babalu Aye (syncretized with Saint Lazarus, Patron of illness and disease) after hearing that a member of my Ile, an elder and sister to me within this practice, was now Cancer Free. This beautiful and humble Orisha not only alerted her to the unknown illness in her body but also CURED her, through his prescriptions and guidance of her elders, in a time span of only several weeks. These stories and experiences are the truth about this religion and practice. This is why practitioners spend so much time, blood, sweat and tears working ceremonies with our spiritual community as well as with seekers needing help and guidance. If your Orisha practice consists only of spells on an altar, or selfies of your beaded necklaces with cigar in mouth, then I am here to tell you that you are missing out on so much more.  There is a whole world out there, just waiting for you to dig a little deeper.

Yemaya N’Agbe O,

Aries
The bills may seem endless this month, Aries. Every day you may receive a new letter asking for money owed. All this financial stress may lead to exhaustion. However, Venus Retrograde, which starts on the 5th can help to consolidate credit, make payment plans, and offer debt relief. Calling in a financial advisor, or asking for advice from others, on the 12th will help elevate your assets on the 26th. Don’t be a hero, use your fiery energy to get assistance, instead of falling victim to endless bills.

Career Tarot Forecast

Happy back to school season, especially for those of us in the School of Life. This is the first week of the whole summer where all personal planets are all moving direct, and while that usually motivates us to get back into the swing of things, we may still feel sluggish due to the sheer weight of all that we’ve experienced during this past couple months. Try to focus on steadily integrating lessons rather than pushing forward at top speed.

The Hermit guides us through the first couple weeks of September, which is very appropriate for Virgo season. He is facing the past, shining the light of his wisdom on all that we have gone through in the past two months, giving us time to discern what it is that we truly want to carry through to the manifestation phase in the coming harvest season. With the Hermit as our guide, we are being asked to release outdated expectations in favor of what truly matters to us. 9, the Hermit’s number, is all about the process of purging what is finished and integrating what is our’s as we step into the next phase of our journey. And so we begin at an ending: what is holding us back? How can we let the dead things fall away? The Hermit makes these decisions in quiet and solitude, so make time for reflection, especially at the new moon in Virgo on September 9th.

While the Hermit requires solitude, the 4 of Pentacles reminds us not to isolate ourselves to the point of disconnection. Sharing time and energy will open us up to new opportunities. We may be afraid of being taken advantage of or of not being valued in the workplace, but creating a barrier between ourselves and others, seeing our job as “just a job” will make us feel small and may even have a negative impact on our career in the long-run. It is better to take conscious steps towards something we desire than to move through where we are as only a shell of ourselves.

That said, if you are feeling stuck and can’t take big leaps towards your dream job this month, make a concerted effort to open up to friends, partners, and family, valuing community to help you maintain a more satisfying work / life balance. The 4 of Pentacles asks us to focus less on what we have and more on what we have to share. With the Lovers card representing the last part of the month, it seems that our work in solitude with the Hermit and the way we use our experience of the “little emperor” (4 of Pentacles) leads us to a fork in the road. The Lovers card speaks to the moral obligation we have to make commitments that nourish our soul’s purpose. Are we committed to our path or are we floating? Either way, it’s ok! Wandering is vital to making any commitment. The Lovers are there to remind us that we have a duty to ourselves to be honest about where we are and what we feel called to do with our lives for the good of humankind. You may be looking at a great collaboration or the opportunity to join a team that inspires you. Where the Hermit cautioned us, the Lovers asks us to reach out and share ideas, openly seeking our place in the world.

Virgo and the Astrology of Virginity

Recently the Sun has made its annual move into tropical Virgo, the symbol of the woman and refers to the word virgin. While our modern minds think of virginity as referring to sexual experience and specifically valuing chastity in women, this common definition has strayed far from the word’s original meaning.

Virgo comes from Latin meaning “unwedded girl, maiden.” It wasn’t until around 1300 that it was used to denote a lack of sexual experience or imply chastity. In Greek translations the word virgin meant “one unto herself.” Similar to many words in English, the original meaning became lost as our Western culture became more and more patriarchal in nature.

With this evolution of language in mind, virginity then actually indicates freedom, self-sufficiency, and wholeness. One of my favorite authors, Nancy Qualls-Corbett goes on to say a virgin is “untouched by man, or…the laws of man.” In this way, virginity is not something that a person could “take” or “give away.” Virginity instead belongs to each of us as an expression of wholeness and divinity and the stories of the virgin goddesses remind us of the power of our own sovereignty.

In Greek and Roman traditions there were often three main virgin goddesses: Vesta/Hestia, Minerva/Athena, and Diana/Artemis. Regardless of gender or GNC, I believe each of these goddesses speak to an aspect of our own wholeness and virginity. Understanding these archetypes in an astrological context gives us important clues about how their archetypal energies show up in our lives and our soul patterning.

I enjoy working with the asteroids and dwarf planets as they are often named after goddesses and invite a complexity not found with just the more popular planetary bodies in our solar system. While the names are gendered, I don’t think of them as unique aspects to any gender and instead different energies that move through us at different times.

How can we work with these archetypal, virginal energies throughout the next month? For me the answers lie in our natal Vesta, Pallas Athene, and Diana asteroids. Both Greek and Roman, though largest in the solar system, all in these asteroids orbit in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Here’s a rundown of each of their meanings in the collective and personal astrology charts:

Asteroid Vesta // Named after Greek Goddess of Hearth and Home

The second largest asteroid discovered in 1807 and was more recently in the news because the satellite Dawn completed its orbit around the asteroid. Currently at 23 degrees Sagittarius trining Pallas Athene perhaps igniting the sacredness of expanding our horizons both mentally and physically.

  • Claim to fame: Vesta the goddess refused to marry Apollo or Poseidon, though may have taken them as lovers. The Vestal virgins of ancient Rome who kept the sacred fires burning and were honored for their chastity.
  • Aspect of virginity: Represents how we channel sexual energy and the blending of both the sacred and profane
  • Astrological energy: What we hold sacred, how we connect through spirit with ceremony, routines or personal rituals, sexual potential or sacred sexuality practices such as Tantra

Asteroid Pallas Athene (Athena) // Greek Goddess of Wisdom, Craft, Poetry, and War

The second asteroid discovered, in 1802, and third largest asteroid, goes by Pallas or Pallas Athene named after Athena. Currently it sits at 22 degrees Leo next to the Sun shining a light on our desire to learn or highlighting our unique version of genius.

  • Claim to fame: A warrior goddess born from Zeus’ head in full armor she event had an entire city named after her (Athens). She fought with Jason and the Argonauts and wore Medusa’s head on her breastplate.
  • Aspect of virginity: The light of the intellect and ability to think for ourselves as well as the internal balance of masculine and feminine energies and head and heart
  • Astrological energy: Our ability to perceive and understand patterns, which require the integration of both intuition and intelligence…as wisdom. Can reveal gifts of creativity or identification with the “know-it-all.”

Asteroid Diana // Named after Roman Goddess of Hunt and Nature

Discovered in 1863 by a German astronomer, it is small compared to the other virgin goddess asteroids and isn’t even within the top 20 when it comes to size. Diana currently sits at 21 degrees Aries, creating a grand trine with the other two virgin goddesses. Together, these two asteroids in such a strong fire sign uplift and empower feminine energies.

  • Claim to fame: She begged her father Jupiter to liberate her from marriage and motherhood, though in Greek mythology she had 50 daughters with the handsome shepherd Endymion. She also had the power to talk to and control animals in the forest and there is even a branch of Wiccan dedicated to her.
  • Aspect of virginity: Freedom and the relationship to our wild nature as well as the connections between women as a part of our unity under patriarchy
  • Astrological energy: Where and how we yearn for our own freedom, perpetual “hunt” for something, our ability to nurture “sisterly” relationships, connection to the wildness in ourselves

Virgo and the asteroid virgin goddesses remind us of the power inherent in our own life force energies and self-possession with or without our sexual relationship to others. A facet of self that beckons us into being whole, complete, and unfettered by the man-made laws and expectations of the gods or patriarchy. During this virgin season may we our inward experience and attitude that isn’t dependent on others for definition or happiness…whole unto ourselves. The way Vesta, Athena, and Diana would have wished.

Blessings WitchyWisdoms Readers! My name is Analisa and I am here to give a quick intro on how to discover your past life Karma using the birth chart.

A lot of us have different reasons for being interested in astrology. It can be fun to see trends in how we relate to one another, as well as how we perceive people through their astrological archetype. But the birth chart holds a key so much larger than just our personality traits; your personal life purpose in relation to your Karmic mission on planet Earth.

The birth chart in astrology I like to refer to as your “cosmic birthmark.” It is a celestial stamp imprinted into you at your time of birth, mapping out themes and potential challenges one will face in their personal development.

The birth chart is also believed to hold the answers to past lives, and shows us what past Karma we have come here to work out.

Many western people have a general understanding of Karma. “What goes around comes around.” This is true, but there are many layers to this understanding that go beyond.

The Story of Rahu and Ketu

In astrology the way we determine our past life Karma, is by looking at the placements of two energetic points located within the chart. These points are called Rahu and Ketu, and are also known as your North and South Node. These points are not planets, but are energetic points determined by the magnetic pull between the Moon and the Earth.

In Vedic mythology Rahu and Ketu was originally one god, a dragon god who disguised itself and in turn betrayed Lord Vishnu, the god who was responsible for protecting the universe. The dragon drank a special nectar meant for other deities that in turn made the dragon god immortal.

Upset, Lord Vishnu severed the head of the dragon, Rahu became the head, and Ketu became the severed body, or tail of the dragon.

This dismemberment is symbolic in representing the disconnection between the head- knowledge- and the body/heart- spirit, that we enter into our lives as humans.

How to Find Your Past Life Karma

In astrology whatever house and sign your South Node falls in, is the past life Karma you are required to heal in this life. Whatever house and sign your North Node falls in is what direction in life you are supposed to be moving towards.

In order to do this you will need to have your birth chart generated for you either by an Astrologer or using a website like astro.com to generate a free chart.

Screen Shot 2018-07-31 at 2.09.21 PM
Using David Bowie’s chart, we can locate his South and North Node placements finding the above symbols, although in the astro.com generated charts, they do not include the glyph of the South Node but it would be exact opposite of the North Node in the chart.
Screen Shot 2018-07-31 at 2.09.32 PM

In David Bowie’s chart we can see that his North Node is located in his 4th house of home and family in the sign of Gemini. This means his South Node is in the 10th house of occupation in the sign of Sagittarius.

If we were to look at David Bowie’s life in its entirety we could see that by the end of his life he began to work more in the direction of his North Node.

In the first half of his life David Bowie was much more focused on the path of his South Node, which was career and public recognition. Being in the 10th house and in the sign of Sagittarius means that he potentially in a past life was a teacher or did some kind of worldly travel for work revolved around enlightening others or educating people around broader philosophical ideas. He also very well could have been a musician in a past life as well having the South Node in the sign of Sagittarius- a common dominant sign in the charts of musicians. He also could have been some kind of religious leader. He was obviously attracted to that life in his younger years- bringing that karma with him into this life.

But in David Bowie’s later part of his life he developed severe health issues that prevented him from touring the world. On his last world tour, he had to cancel in the middle of it and return home due to unforeseen illness. He then spent the remainder of his life living very privately with his family (4th house.) And no longer was as focused on fame or recognition in the same way as when he was younger. This was his karma to fulfill in this life, and in one way or another, his fate pushed him along into that direction.

With this simplified and generic break down of the North and South Node you can see how it is beneficial to understand your North and South Nodes in your birth chart and the influence of the energy within the personal path of your own life.

I always feel when I am doing a chart, the most important piece to guide the client to is unlocking the key to your Karma through the Lunar Nodes as it is showing you the path you are meant to be leading in this life, and the karma you are meant to be healing.

I hope this article helps  you to want to discover your personal karmic life path and help you to see the many layers in which the birth chart can help guide us in our lives.

Aries
As your planetary ruler Mars swoops backwards, through August 27th, you may feel like you’re not getting a big enough paycheck, especially on the 6th through the 9th. This motivates you to get creative on how to expand your net worth during the solar eclipse on August 11th. The 19th presents an opportunity to raise your prices, which may leave you waiting on pins and needles for the next several days. August ends with a chance for your clients to see how amazing you are and how much more credit you deserve, by way of money.

Taurus
A fortuitous opportunity presents itself on the 6th, giving you the chance to collaborate on a profitable new project. Be careful to outline the partnership through a contract, which will save you time and money in the end, as the slowdown of Mercury, Mars, and Uranus retrograde can leave you with a reversal of fortune if you do not use the 6th to your full advantage. The 7th will make you feel as though you are giving up too much authority in this alliance, heightened by financial stresses on the 9th,  as well as the solar eclipse August 11th, but dig your heels in, as the 19th allows you to reap serious financial benefits.

Gemini
Uncertainty regarding finances may leave you with persistent worries for the first half of the month, as your planetary ruler, Mercury, is causing you to feel more mentally restless than usual. Try to focus your abundant energy on innovative ways to save and maybe even make an extra buck. The Solar eclipse on August 11th brings info to light surrounding raises or money owed to you, whereas the 12th may have you hiding under a rock dodging people you’ve borrowed money from. Relief is on the way on the 19th, lasting the last 12 days of August, allowing you to enter September on solid financial ground.

Cancer
August pushes you to take stock of your personal net worth, giving you the opportunity to reassess your finances during the Solar eclipse on August 11th. Mercury’s moonwalk through the financial sector of your chart, which lasts until August 19th, urges you to decide if luxury items you crave for comfort are truly necessary or if you can wait to make the purchase. Stresses are alleviated on the 12th, as Mars, who is retrograde as well, offers you an opportunity to consolidate debt or save money.

Leo
With Mercury moonwalking and the solar eclipse heating up your already hot sun, August is a month full of change for you, as long as you access your ferocious Lion energy and fight for what’s yours! August 8th causes some ambiguity about your debts. You may have recently taken on too many creative projects, leaving you with fresh debt, which will really bug you on the solar eclipse. You may get upset about your inability to treat yourself to nice treats on your solar return. The 18th allows you to shine amongst your friends and the 19th gives you the vigor to treat yourself again, as you’ve paid some or all of your debts.

Virgo
You’re finally getting that long lost paycheck on August 6th, which you’ve been waiting for since since July 26th when Mercury started to slow down. The retrograde caused delays in receiving mail, and, therefore, money. With some extra cash in your pocket, you may decide to relax this month and take a rest-cation from work, opting to use all those personal days you earned through the year to center yourself, especially during the eclipse on August 11th. Be sure to deposit the check right away and to keep your bank statements up to date, as things may get tricky to manage around the 21st.

Libra
August 6th serves as your time to pamper yourself with luxurious gifts, as your planetary ruler, Venus, links up with your sun. With champagne wishes and caviar dreams, August is a lovely time to shower yourself with gifts, mostly because your personal wealth is being expanded all month. With that in mind, you may decide to give back for all your good fortune this month by donating money to a charity during the solar eclipse on August 11th. Just be sure everything is legit about the organization you choose so you don’t feel scammed!

Scorpio
August proves to be a fruitful time for you financially! Even while your planetary ruler, Mars, moves backwards, you are still on fire, as you know how to manage your money. The solar eclipse on August 11th can offer you a chance to get a raise, which is something you have been eyeing at work for a while now. Show your audience you are the top Scorpion for the job by subtly reminding them of all your hard efforts from the past. This will propel you to monetary bliss by the beginning of September, when you can afford to treat yourself.

Sagittarius
This August, you may be the recipient of some sweet charity from your friends. While you may be too proud to ask for a loan, your friends may offer it or take up a collection to help you on August 6th. You are generous and deserve a helping hand! The eclipse on the 11th gives you a moment to feel grateful for the kindness of others. Just be sure to make an agreement with them about a repayment plan by the 19th, as your friends may grow impatient if you don’t make an agreement by then. Assuring them you will return their generosity will avoid strife on the 27th.

Capricorn
Your personal finances may be a mess until the 12th, as action planet Mars shifts backwards from the financial sector of your chart making you take action and accountability for your spending habits. The solar eclipse and Mercury’s retrograde journey allow you to understand you can ask for help, whether it be financial aid, assistance, a loan, or even guidance on how to invest your money. Don’t be too proud to ask for help and take the advice. It will leave you more clear about how to manage your assets.

Aquarius
You are best served by heading into this month ready to do some hardcore adulting! You may feel like a bit of a shut-in and you will probably get bored in a week, but saving money will prevent issues for you in September. This includes making a monthly budget, coming to truly understand the costs of your expenses, and not going out to party whenever you feel like it unless you can truly afford to. While you may feel financially stressed on the 9th, the solar eclipse on 11th and then the helpful vibe of the 18th bring you time to spend some hard-earned cash on a fun evening out with your friends.

Pisces
It’s high time to get your monetary ducks in a row this month! The 6th brings a little quiet time for you to patiently tally up all your expenditures just in time for the eclipse on the 11th, which will help you understand what you should be spending your hard-earned money on… and where you can save a little for a rainy day. It’s time to take action and forego the fancy lattes this month. If you save now, an investment or return on your savings will make a once in a lifetime dream vacation possible in the coming months. Start saving now and you will be thankful later on.

Monthly Tarot Forecast

The Atmosphere: August brings with it a host of intense cosmic energies that we can all use to fuel the fires of our passions and ambitions. While we are in the midst of multiple retrogrades, Leo season is bound to keep us motivated to achieve our career goals. With the planets turning on their heels, hitting points we recently experienced all over again, we are given a chance to dig in deeper so that to we can aim higher when Mercury and Mars go direct again a few weeks.

The Draw: The cards that represent the energy this month are the Ace of Wands, the 2 of Wands, and the 4 of Swords, with the Fool holding us steady to the promise of bliss at the bottom of the deck. We have low number (below 5) fire cards (wands), which indicate that we will start the month off with lots of energy. The Ace of Wands gives us a surge of inspiration surrounding our career goals, no matter the retrograde vibes! We will probably return with renewed energy to a project we dropped earlier in the summer and work at it with all our might through the first half of the month.

The 2 of Wands signifies the commitment to the idea, with the figure in the card taking the first step towards manifesting his vision. We will prepare to plant the seed of our inspiration in the fertile ground of the outside world. Use this energy well, for the 4 of Swords at the end of the month shows an abrupt slowdown. We may feel that we’ve overexerted ourselves as Mercury moves direct in the 3rd week of August. At this time, we may be prone to burn-out if we don’t slow down when we first start to feel tired, sluggish, or simply uninspired. You will have done enough work where a restorative break won’t put you back! Plan on rewarding yourself with a weekend of quiet self-care towards the end of the month. The Fool at the bottom of the deck (the “end of the book”) reminds us that the work we do with integrity will lead us to our bliss in time.

The Bottomline: Trust that whatever calls to you from the past in the beginning of the month is worth the work to either accomplish or resolve, and know when to take time for yourself to prevent burn-out.

I feel so blessed for every moon cycle my dears!

I grow and evolve and for each full moon, I feel the skin shed and a new layer being introduced to the world.

As I write this, I am headed to an event where I will be reading tarot for a bunch of beautiful souls, looking for clarification in this emotional, deep, and glorious Scorpio Full Moon.

Us Scorpios don’t fuck around. We penetrate the shadow, and help to uncover pain, while healing it intuitively. Having this gift and an affinity for the shadow, I just feel so blessed to be able to read within this energy!

But I have a confession, I am nervous!

Which brings me to the topic of conversation for todays reflection: Fear.

Just because I do this professionally doesn’t mean I don’t have fear around public events. Or even going live in videos. Or even DM’s.

There’s always a tinge of “What if someone doesn’t like my interpretation?”

“What if they don’t understand my message?”

“What if I get judged?”

But the beauty in all of this, is that as the fear never goes away, it does SHRINK.

When I first started WitchyWisdoms, I knew it was something I had to do as a soul mission. Even though it scared the daylights out of me.

And every move forward I have had fear, but it has  become less and less the more I prove to myself that I can do it, no matter what.

Fear doesn’t disappear, but learning to navigate around it and cope within it is so essential on this Full Moon. As we grow, we love all parts of ourselves. Pain and all.

Use this Full Moon spread to find your pain point, and understand how it serves you. My fears always kept me safe, because if I listened to them, I could avoid judgement. But the growth of working through them is worth so much more.

Happy Full Moon babies. Get deep and stay witchy ( *)
